Atopic Dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis, more commonly known as eczema, is a common skin condition often found in children, though adults may also develop the condition. The word “atopic” indicates a likely genetic link that increases one’s likelihood of having a condition. Atopic dermatitis is often an indicator that the patient is at greater risk of developing asthma and/or allergic rhinitis (hay fever).
Symptoms Of Eczema
Symptoms of atopic dermatitis include brown or red patches of skin, cracked, dry, or scaly skin, and itchiness or irritation of the skin (especially at night). For babies, eczema may cause small red bumps to appear on the child’s cheeks. On older patients, it may cause a red rash on the folds of the joins, such as the elbows or knees.
